Hi All,
I am performing a MBSA scan on a offline server (ie no internet) so have as per the instructions on the MBSA 2.0 FAQ's page at MS done the following;
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/se...
If you use MBSA in the offline mode, you will need to download the new version of MBSA. You will also need to download the new offline scan file, wsusscn2.cab, by clicking http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Lin... Save it to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\MBSA\2.0\Cache\wsusscn2.cab.
So when I do the above and I run the scan locally, this returns the error;
Issue: Security Updates
Score: Unable to scan
Result: An error occurred while scanning for security updates. (0x8024402c)Which by the KB here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900...
is fixed by going on the net! lol!How can I correct the MBSA scan so that it runs using the local copy of wsusscn2.cab?
Thanks in advance for any help :)Bowza

Its ok, I think the correct method is detailed further down the Tecnhet link (1st link in above post) why MS have it detailed in two places differently I'm not sure!;
Q. MBSA uses files that it downloads from the Internet, but the computer I want to use to scan my network doesn't have Internet access. How can I use MBSA in this case?
A. You can either perform the scan using the mbsacli command-line utility with the /nd (do not download) parameter, or you can perform the scan using the GUI. Before scanning you must copy the necessary files to the computer performing the scan. There are three types of files that are required:• Security update catalog (Wsusscn2.cab), available from the Microsoft Web site
• Authorization catalog for Windows Update site access (Muauth.cab), available from the Microsoft Web site
• Windows Update Agent (if not already installed):• For x86-based computers (WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe), available from the Microsoft Web site
• For x64-based computers (WindowsUpdateAgent20-x64.exe), available from the Microsoft Web site
After downloading the files from the Microsoft Web site, copy them to the following folder on the computer performing the security update scan:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\MBSA\2.0\CacheImportant: To ensure that MBSA has access to the most current versions of these files, you should download them on a weekly basis or after any release of security bulletins from Microsoft. This is especially important in the case of the security update catalog (Wsusscn2.cab) because Microsoft releases an updated version of this file whenever new security bulletins are released or updated.
When you run MBSA to perform security update checks on remote computers, MBSA deploys the Windows Update Agent to the remote computer. A version of Windows Update Agent (WindowsUpdateAgent20-ia64.exe) is also available from the Microsoft Web site for Itanium-based computers. MBSA does not deploy this version, and so you must install and configure Windows Update Agent on Itanium-based computers before performing a security update check on those computers.
