What's involved in maintaining MS Server 2003? I got the book, "Best Damn Windows Server 2003 Book Period" and was wondering what type of maintenance is needed on monthly/quarterly basis.

Thanks

Not sure I ever saw a periodic schedule. You'd have to devise that yourself based on your sites useage.

Most people would start with a baseline performance monitor. Then check on occasion.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

For myself, I've always performed certain tasks regularly.

Daily:

- Ensure backups ran properly overnight
- Check even viewer logs for problems
- Ensure anti-virus has checked for updates and if new ones were available, updated
- Check firewall logs

Weekly:
- Perform a restore test on most recent backup
- Update server(s) with MS's update site (I never let those run automatically)

Depending on what all you're running in your environment, you may find you have other tasks that should be done regularly as well.
