An organization I do work for recently got a new desktop. After setting it up on their domain, I went to install Symantec Endpoint AV software on it (which they have a current license for). Unfortunately, this needs a password. No one here knows the password (the one person who does died unexpectedly some time ago) and it is not the same as any of the other admin passwords. Unable to add new clients, or reconfigure the existing ones, we've considered switching to a different AV solution or reinstalling Symantec, but again, the password is needed to remove the Symantec software (from the clients or server). I'm sure there is no way to recover the password, but is there a way to uninstall Symantec Endpoint without the password so we can start over?

This is a known bug. Go into the registry and look for the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Administrator Only\Security\
then set the:
useVPuninstallpassword
to 0 to turn off the uninstall password.

ace, that worked in previous versions of Norton and Symantec, but it doesn't work for SEP.
I would recommend contacting Symantec or checking out their Support site.

Worked for me to remove some SEP 10 and SEP 11 clients. I don't know about the password set by a SEP policy, as this was not implemented on the clients I was removing.
