Name: vande
My clients take upto 10 min to login to my domain..... Someone told me a WINS server would solve the problem but WINS server research told me that above win2000 dont need one so what could be my problem? Im no expert but i have taken classes and have the software and books so anything that comes to mind first?

You don't need a wins server but you do need correct dns configuration.
Look at the tcp/ip tab on a workstation. Is it listing the Windows 2000 ip address or the internet providers dns ip address?
But we have already had this conversation vande in previous posts. Did you ever crack those books?

I have and again im back to here :) cause i thought i set it up the correct way. I got the primay DNS setting on client computer as my win2003 server then the next is the ISP DNS so anything needed to fe found outside my network can reach the ISP DS and find it. so here is exactly how i got it setup my win 2003 is hosting my dhcp which then gives clients an ip and a gateway that is specified to be my router now im using the router as a switch DHCP is truned off cause its working on my Win2003 i will get you more details in about 2 1/2 3 hours for now look this over see if you spot the problem

"then the next is the ISP DNS"
Incorrect. Well not exactly. You only need the one MS dns entry.
But since you also listed the isp dns I suspect you did not populate your MS server DNS forwarders tab [not to be confused with forward lookup zone]with the ISP's dns entries.
You only want your workstations resolving dns from your ms dns server. Though once working having the isp listed 2nd would be an alternative to if your MS serve was down and you still wanted internet access to the workstations.
Your dns server does have a host and ptr record for itself in the forward lookup zone?

Please check this out and let me know if it works. I had the same issue once.
Check the Clock on your Client Workstation and on the Server. Make sure that they are set to the same time (or as close as possible).
It sounds crazy, but when I synchronized the time of the cerver and client, the login was lightning fast. If there was a 5 minute difference, then it took almost 5 minutes to login.
Good luck

speaking of which i can set a time server in my DNS right? Anyone know NTP name of a good server i can use and all clients should sync with server i set this right?
