hi friends.. this is my first post.. i have a windows 2003 server,(not a Domain, it is in workgroup) which is used as a database server, i have configured also DHCP Server . currently 7 user connect to it.
i simply connect these to a D-Link 8 port switch. which is working.
i have a LinkSys router and i have 2MB line. i want to use the internet on server for remote management. so plz give me the possible and easiest solution to get internet on Server.i don't want to give internet to any client, only to Server.
my server DHCP scope is
192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.120

i have no extra port on Switch also . what configuration/steps should i do on the Router or on Server to get the internet on Server and also LAN available on Server, i don't want to buy any switch also.,,,, thnx in advance for ur valuable comments and suggestion

Seems the best choice is to use another adapter to access the internet. Usb or internal would work.

Sorry but jefro doesn't always explain his answers or how to implement them.

I would suggest the following;

Server must have a static ip. Since you dhcp scope if 192.168.1.x I suggest setting it at 192.168.1.99

DHCP should be disabled on the router. Your server dhcp scope would not include a gateway entry since you don't want them on the internet.

You enable remote desktop on the server.

Then you forward port 3389 in the router to the static ip of the server.

You then follow this article up to the point of connecting. Instead of name you use wanipaddress:port. You get your wan ip from going to ipchicken.com when at work.
