Hi All ? Unable to browse the internet.
I have a laptop with a wireless connection to my router which works fine.
Than I have a desktop Win Server 2K3 connected thru RJ45 to the laptop.
I was able to browse the net just fine, but it stopped couple of weeks ago.
I am able to browse network drives(share) on both PC's but unable to chat or browse the internet from the server.
IP addr for LAN(Laptop) to Server:192.168.2.2
Defualt gatwy : 192.168.2.1
Wireless connection(Laptop):192.168.2.2
defualt gatwy:192.168.2.1
If you need more information please let me know ? Any help appreciated.

Are you using ICS on the laptop to share the internet with your PC? If you are, based on the information below:

IP addr for LAN(Laptop) to Server:192.168.2.2
Defualt gatwy : 192.168.2.1
Wireless connection(Laptop):192.168.2.2
defualt gatwy:192.168.2.1

I would say you need to change the Gateway IP of the PC to that of the laptop since it's traffic has to go through the laptop first, before accessing the internet.

If you don't mind me asking you a rather obvious question. Why don't you just plug the PC into the router? It would simplify things and then you don't need the laptop on all the time in order for your PC to access the internet.

What you're doing kind of defeats the entire purpose of a router.

Yes I am using ICS, still unable to configure internet connection. However about connecting my server to router, I can't do it, since the router is upstairs & I am sharing wireless connection from my landlord!!! I have to use a RJ45 cable connection from laptop to Server. Here is the current ip config for both PC's:
Win Server 2k3:
ip addr : 192.168.2.1
Default gateway : 192.168.2.1
DNS servers : 192.168.0.1

Laptop with wireless connection:
Wireless connection(Laptop):192.168.2.2
defualt gatwy:192.168.2.1
IP addr for LAN(Laptop) to Server:192.168.2.2
Defualt gatwy : 192.168.2.1
Ethernet LAN adaptor :
ip addr : 192.168.0.18
Defualt gatwy : 192.168.0.1

Any help appreciated.

Statically assign the following to the server:

IP: 192.168.2.10
Gateway: 192.168.2.2
DNS: 192.168.2.2

Because you're using ICS on the laptop, it in effect becomes the gateway and DNS for whatever connects to it.

The IP address: 192.168.2.1 is your landlords wireless SOHO router. So if that IP is assigned to anything else, you're going to have problems. The only place you should see that IP is the ICS connection to the landlords wireless network.

The laptop's LAN side gateway IP should point at itself 192.168.2.2 as should any clients connected to the laptop.
