Hello,
Thanks to all of you that take time to help people stuck like me...<g>I have a Toshiba PCX5000 wireless cable modem which is connected to Time Warner Road Runner; I have a Linksys USB network adapter connected to my Windows 2003 Standard server.
The issue I have had is when I do not use encryption (WEP) for the connection to the router the connection is solid, it shows the connect as "Excellent", however if I enable WEP on both sides and enter a key I can connect fine, with the connection still showing "Excellent", but the connection will disconnect off and on and then I get a message stating that it can not find a valid IP via DHCP. I then have to go to the network connection, hit Repair, it connects with the correct IP and it is fine....
Before the Tech from R.R. left, we decided that I should use the article from TechNet to reset the TPC/IP:
"netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt"
hoping that would help but no luck so far...
What would cause this intermittent connection? The router and USB adapter are only fifteen feet from each other through a doorway so it shouldn't be a distance or going through a brick wall issue, I have reloaded the drivers. Maybe the XP drivers don't do well on Win2K3??
Any advice would be appreciated!!
Thank you!
Tony
Oh yeah, we did replace the modem.
