Instant Messaging Inter-Office?

My company is moving to a big office space shortly. Now we just holler down the hallway at each other if we need something. I wanted to know if there is some way to implement a sort of intercom through our network of computers, instant messaging, if you will. So a sound and popup message appears on the computer of the person you want to talk to. Any suggestions?
FYI: I will be implementing a VPN for offsite users and we use Server 2003 Standard Edition.

there probably is something like that but, there would so many issues to consider that it may not be worth it bandwidth being one and if you were to use an IM, security/virus to name a couple.

You could use the Messenger service, and then via command prompt:
net send targetcomputername you have the whitest white part of the eye I've ever seen...do you floss?
Make sure there's a firewall in front of the LAN!
You could also use netmeeting.

There are several Instant Mssengers designed for business use. I'd recommend taking a look at the commercial version of jabber at www.jabber.com. There is also an opensource project at jabber.org. Trillian works great as a client btw but on the server side for business use i strongly suggest looking at the commercial jabber. I have found it more reliable than the open source.
