OS: server 2003
CPU/Ram: 2.0gb
Product: dell
Comment:

i bought a dell poweredge 840 that came pre-installed with small business server 2003. It came with wrong server OS. It also shipped with RAID 1 already setup. I'm tryin to install server 2003 standard and its not recognizing any disks. I press F6 in beginning for RAID SCSI devices and am prompted to press "S" to specify additional device or press "enter" to continue. When i press "S" it then says "Setup could not find a floppy drive on your machine to load OEM drivers from floppy disc. press ESC to cancel loading OEM drivers or press F3 to quit setup." I have all the discs that shipped with the Dell server. If anyone could help i would greatly appreciate it.

You need the RAID drivers on the floppy. Your documentation should have come with the make/model info on the controller. Go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers and put them on a new floppy. Have them ready when you hit F6.

also another question about RAID1. Say the Server OS is already loaded and configured without RAID and down the road you want to install it. Do you have to reinstall server OS to do so or just install adapter, drive and software it came with to build configuration without reinstalling OS?

Might have to build raid array in scsi bios.

Might have to slipstream the cd to add in drivers.

Might be able to contact dell and explain the situation. They would have a OEM disk most likely to do that.

Could also build a barts or ubcd4win. Might even be able to use a Vista dvd. (it is a PE)

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Dell makes a disk you can download that preboots the drivers fr the sata/sas controler.

Also you can use a usb floppy drive or if you have a drac card you can mount a floppy image to that
