Comment: Hey everybody, I have setup an FTP site through IIS on my win2k3 server. The site points to an internal directory on the server using an external IP address. The problem is that the employees can open the documents, but when they try to make changes and save them, it only allows them to save a local copy to their machine, instead of just saving the changes to the actual document they are working on. Any suggestions/help? This is driving some of my external users crazy! Thanks

Reply: #1. FTP access externally for users is an incredibly BAD idea. Did you know when you log in via FTP, your username and password are sent in plain text? A hacker simply has to sniff the traffic, and they have a valid user account with password. #2. If these are Microsoft Office documents, this is precisely why Sharepoint was developed! BTW, it's free! http://www.microsoft.com/technet/wi... #3. Sharepoint uses HTTP, so it's a perfect for using with SSL to encrypt all traffic, including authentication.
