I work for a small software company. Weare starting to do more and more things on the web such as hosting an FTP server and in the future we plan to host a Web Server. We are trying to become more secure when it comes to our Internet Access. Currently all computers are hooked to the internet through a router. We would like to have all computers run through our Windows 2003 Server computer to get to the internet. We would then install software to protect us from viruses and such on the Server and protect ourselves. Is this a good way to go? Is this going to slow our 2003 Server machine down a lot. We use it for a lot of things we do in the office right now so we really can't have too much slowdown. If this is a good idea what exactly do we need to set up in our 2003 Server machine to accomplish this. Do we need to make it a DHCP server, DNS Server? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like where SBS2003 would come in. I'd recomend the Premium rather than the Standard. This will have all a small company would need for the Server, Exchange, SQL, IIS6 But it will have ISA 2000 for the Firewall. A hardware Firewall will always be better, but this isn't a bad one, & it is intergrated with the OS. All you'd need is a form of AV for the server, I use the Mcafee TVD (Total Virus Defence) this will do for the OS & Exchange.
