After 3 years of succesfull service an IBM xSeries with Windows 2003 SP2 experiment ramdon failures and stop responding in network. When I login in the system windows 2003 hung after introduce username and password and the only response is restart the machine. The fail is similar to described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/132...
but is a simple 2003 Server whitout SNA Server. The memory is OK and the harddrives too. I discard a harware fail in the machine, maybe in the network but i doub it.
Any suggestions?

If the server is up and running, can you ping the server from another pc?
If so, can you connect remotely via rdp?
In that case, you can check the event logs for any errors the may help to figure out the problem. Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

I had the same happen to a workstation. Turned out the fan burnt out and the computer was overheating almost immediately after I turned it on.
Probably not the same thing that you're having, but yeah remotely connecting to it would be your best bet.
