502 is a "bad gateway" error. This certainly could have something to do with your port forwarding setup. Why don't you post a link to your other thread so we can catch up with what you've already done.

Also, just some general advice: whenever you are troubleshooting a server issue, the first thing you should do is check your logs. If the web server is sending a response to a client, it is also writing an event to its log file. The logged event is probably more verbose than the error message the client receives. So if you consider the error message to be siginificant - which you obviously do, because you are posting about it - consider the logs to be an extension of the error message.

This is as much for future readers as it is for you, Dave :)

i know this may sound stupid but would it be easier to install my dsl modem on the server and run my internet connection for my high end computer through the server. This should cut out the need for port forwarding and simplify things a bit?

Potentially, yes. Although it would be nice to actually fix the problem too :)

Also, you should never connect any Windows computer directly to the Internet. But, since you already are, you can't really make things any worse by doing what you propose.

"Also, you should never connect any Windows computer directly to the Internet"

What does that mean?

He means, you should use some sort of hardware firewall or natted router, instead of the internet connection directly connect to your windows machine via USB or PCI card.

Router port forwarding is easier than "ICS" and a lot less overheads on the machines.
