i came across a problem that happend a while back the server had an app running that crashed. the app uses a certain file and the operating system thought the file was open even though the app crashed. when we re started the app it failed saying the file wasn't avalible. what had happend is server 2003 still thought the file was open and wouldnt let anything else touch it. we resloved the problem by a reboot but this caused other problems with people not being informed and work lost. what i want to know is does any one know a way of flushing the operating system to either see if the app is still using the file or to get it to relese it whitout resorting to a reboot?
all text needs typos. There there for the reader to find,to distract them from the total lack of content. google it! wasnt the answer to the question i asked so dont be dense and give me that reply!

I think systernals had a small app to see what files are in use and by what process.
You then attempt to end that process to unlock the file.
Never known a good solution to a crashed app. They tend to take out other stuff. Consider running this on a virtual machine by itself. Then just reboot that VM and keep your server up.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

great sudgestion.
wouldnt be able to implement it becasue im a jounior and the people in charge know nothing. i was hoping for a comand that was a quick fixall text needs typos. There there for the reader to find,to distract them from the total lack of content.
