I want to create Roaming User Profile in Windows Server . To create it the path which i have studies is
\\server_name\Profiles\user_nameHere i don't know that what is "Profiles" is it a directory or a file.
My server name is win2ktest and user is "jone"so please guide me that what is profiles ? should i write my currect statement?
\\win2ktest\profiles\jone
2-- In home folder i want to keep the users file in my server Directory . There are two option
Connect To
In connect there are Drivers from C to Z .Which should i choose ? and in To what should i write in it ?
Thanks in advance

for roaming profiles you have to create on one a client workstation then copy it up to a share on your server, then set the UNC path to it with \\servername\share\profilepath
its a directory on the workstation you created it on.
for the Connect To:
if your using a share i always use drive Z: then type a UNC path to a share on your server where u want users to save things

Thanks "tonysathre" for the reply. In my Server i have C,D AND E drive. so in
for the Connect To:can i give Z drive here. According to your statement "if your using a share " does it means that there is a logical drive Z or there is a shared file in C drive in server.
Thanks

all the Z: means is what the user will see in My Computer, it will say under the drive icon:
username on 'server\share' (Z:)
so this can be anything u want, it doesnt have to correspond to a physical partition on your server

Thnaks " tonysathre" for the reply. Well dear iam still unable to understand it.Any site with complete help about it.
Thanks

The user i have made in "Active Directort user and computer.
Plz guide me that what is the problem. Thanks

"tonysathre " in short i can't login from any other user expect "Administrator" in my windows 2000 server. It is the default settings that only Admin can enter ?
Thanks again for the guidence.

I'm not sure if it's the exact same in Windows 2000 Server but here's what I did in 2003 Server.
Right-click on the "Domain Controllers" OU in Active Directory. Select Properties, then "Policy". Edit the "Default Domain Controller" Group policy like this:
Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment. There you'll find a line "Allow log on locally", double click it and add the user that you want to log on to your server.
Hope that helps.

the problem isnt that he cant logon to his server, its his users cant log on to their workstations.
check and make sure all the users are in the Domain Users group, can any user logon, including local administrator and domain administrator. make sure u have connectivity with your DC, also check the evernt viewer on the DC, make sure DNS is working as well.
post back

well "tonysathre " My default admin is Admistrator but there are also others users in the AD .when i want to login the users when i make in AD windows 2000 server gives me a message .
"The Local Polocy of this system does not permit you to login interactively" .
Plz guide me that how can i login other than administrator in windows 2000 server machine.

I came across a similar issue. I'm noob, but the simple solution I found for small businesses (like my own upgrading not just to server 2003, but from a workgroup to domain) was as follows: assuming you've added each cpu manually in AD (along with the OU, users, ect.) and added the computer to the domain after that. Remove the workstation in question from the domain and put it back in WORKGROUP. Restart and delete each instance of the computer from AD on your server. For instance, in the Computers container (which it should already remove-just refresh (F5)). If you created the computer somewhere else, make sure it's deleted. Now re-add the workstation to the domain. This will recreate the profile automatically in AD. You should then be able to logon the individual users, not just the local machine and server administrator. Hope this helps.
