Hi all,
well, i'm stuck up, actually all our office
pcs were working on wokrgroup, n recently
we've planned to implement domain system, we
made a test server, everythin worked fine,
but later found out that when i pinged any
machine on the network using the hostname, i
got a reply but the ipaddress was totally
different, no computer had that ip address,
i think the request was being redirected by
the firewall(that is set as our default
gateway).. but pinging with the ip address
works fine, infact if i enter any random
name n ping i'm gettin a reply for
that........ help awaited

i'd like to add further, that when i'm
changing/removing the default gateway
address, i'm getting the right response...
(but internet stops working, thats an obvious
thing)... also, all the other computers are
working fine without any problems, except
this machine

sounds like you dns entries are wrong. In a domain the first dc is also the dns server. Are you pointing to it or the router/isp dns servers are on the workstation?

You might want to search here for proper ms dns configuration. It's been answered many times.

Example of Oxymoron:

Person who is pro life and anti sex education.
Education is key to prevention. Prevent conception you prevent abortion.

Abstinence training clearly isn't working.
