I am in process of installing windows 2003 standard edition as domain server for my network which comes default 5 cals. I have 50 users in my network and have 50 clients computer with licensed windows xp. Still do i have to purchase additional cals for win2k3. Also tell me how to install this cals on win2k3.

You need 45 server cals. XP cals don't count as server cals.
You add server cals via license manager

Yep. In the Server Management window, click on licensing. Once you type in the numbers, you should see your licenses appear.

You don't need server cals, you need CALs. Client access licenses. Don't get confused. 45 Server licenses would mean you have 45 servers.
You don't really need to add the licenses anywhere in able to connect to the server unless you are talking about terminal server licenses which you haven't mentioned.
You need to call your vendor and order 45 Windows 2003 CALs. They are about $20 each or so. If you add more servers, consider switching from per server to per seat licensing.
If you keep a record of your license purchase you'll be legal.
