Comment:

Regarding Group Policies, if a workstation is a member of a domain, and within a container that has a Policy attached to it, if the GPO is removed will the changes to client be retained? For example: If my policy included security settings, a printer mapping, and a VBS to add a warning notice, will all or some of the changes follow the machine if it's removed from the domain? How much of what happens during the application of a policy actually stays with the machine?

It should be easy enough to test. Simply logon locally to the PC in question (won't get GPO settins from domain) and compare to when it's logged onto the domain (and getting it's GPO settings).
