GPO; Client Settings Retention

Comment:
Regarding Group Policies, if a workstation is a member of a domain, and within a container that has a Policy attached to it, if the GPO is removed will the changes to client be retained? For example: If my policy included security settings, a printer mapping, and a VBS to add a warning notice, will all or some of the changes follow the machine if it's removed from the domain? How much of what happens during the application of a policy actually stays with the machine?
