Hello,
I am an intern for a Technology Learning Center and one of the many problems that we are having is that our "Student" profile will not accept the password anymore. I've tried to reset the password to no avail. I get an error that it can't login to the domain, however I am able to login to the domain using the "administrator" account on any computer. This "Student" account is a single account used by all the students that come to the center. I've also tried to delete it and create a new one and the Server won't let me. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Did you check to see if the account is locked out? "I've tried to reset the password to no avail." What error do you get?
What happens when you attempt to delete the account?

check username and domain
i didn't write down the error for the deletion, but it was something along the lines of "can't delete a main user" or something, i'll get it when i go back on monday...
THANKS!!!

I checked the account and it is currently enabled...
When I tried to delete the account I got the error message, "Cannot perform this operation on built-in accounts"
The error message I get when trying to log into the "Student account" is, "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again."
Thanks in advanced

Perhaps this Student account is the built-in Guest account? So, I ask again, what error are you getting when you attempt to reset the account password?

I get the same, "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again."

""The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again." is a login error.
So, I ask yet again: :) What error are you getting when you attempt to RESET the account's password?

I have reset the password on the account via active directory. I still get the exact same error message when I attempt to login. Am I missing something here??

Did you by chance somehow change the login from the Domain to the Local Computer? Do you have two lines on the logon screen or three lines? What happens if you click on "Options?" Can you login to the Domain using another account on this same computer? You said you can login to the Domain using "Administrator." Is that the Local Administrator or a Domain Administrator user account?

I'm not using the Local Domain, it's the same Domain on every other computer. The Administrator account is the primary account the staff uses on all the systems. I have not been able to get the Student account to log in on any of the workstations, however the director told me that he's able to get the Student account to log in "Sometimes" on specific workstations, but I have not been able to duplicate. There are three lines on the login splash, Username, Password and Domain. Only 2 options for the domain, one is the global domain the other is the local computer.

So you can login using Administrator/password/Domain? (Not Global Domain...just a correction to your terminology.)

This doesn't make any sense. Either the account is locked out or the password is being typed incorrectly. CAPS Lock on perhaps? Can you login with your regular Domain account?
How was this Student user account created in AD? It doesn't make sense that you're getting an error when trying to delete it. The error indicates this is a built-in account, which leads me to believe that something was setup incorrectly.
Just an observation; leaving the default Administrator username is a bad idea. If the local default Administrator accounts haven't been renamed, I highly recommend that they are. And, I'm not sure why there is a Domain user by the name of Administrator. That one should be renamed appropriately as well.

I'm not sure, everything was put together before I started there. I'll have to ask on Monday about the way everything was setup. I do know, however, that everything had been running fine all summer long until sometime in September. That's when the whole network went south. Do you think that it could be a virus??

Sorry to be a bother, but is there a step process I could go by to ensure that everything is set up correctly for this to work accurately? I have a book that helped me set it up, but since it's not working I have to assume that something was left out of the readings.
Thanks
