I have been fitting with FTP in IIs for a while now and cannot get over this hurdle. After setting up a site, I can't login to it. The password is never accepted. I have:

Built a site with the wizard.
Directed the site to a folder on the server
Set permissions on that folder for me
Set the site to not allow Anonymus logins
Restarted the service

I have looked at numerous sites that show tutorials on setting up a FTP site and all of them are telling me I should have access after doing all those steps. I have tried using the domain administrator login and can't access it.

I have even tried allowing anynomus access and the site still asks for a password(none of which work).

Does anyone know what I am missing?

Did you add yourself or the administrators group to the FTP Site Operators in your Default FTP Site Properties under the Security Account Tab?

You spoke about adding rights to the folder but not giving rights for FTP.

Thanks for the info, but there are no options to add anyone on that tab. I open the properties window of the Default FTP site and go to the Security Accounts tab. The only options are to allow anonymus access. I can't add any users or groups to the site there. Is there another place I should be lookiing?

Sorry I'm thinking IIS 5.0 and would be 6.0 on 2003 server.

Are you logging in with Domain/UserID?

Yep, tried that too and got the same thing. This is driving me nuts, because I know this should be alot easier than I am making it.

Try deleting the site and re-running the wizard. This time add domain users and domain admins to the rights.

It sounds like it should work but can't really tell what the problem is without knowing exactly what was done.

I AM A DUMBASS! I was trying to go to "ftp.myserver.com" instead of "ftp://myserverIPaddress". Once I tried that, I was in! Somehow I knew it was going to be something stupid like that.

Thanks for helping out though. I do appreciate it.

Now I have moved on to another issue. I can access the FTP site locally, but not from outside the network. I have seen a couple of postings about enabling FTP access to the external IP, but cannot find where I can set this. I have port 21 forwarded to the server and have seen login failures in the server report today from my attempts last night to connect. It tells me the password is incorrect, but I am using the same one as I was locally.

Am I missing something?
