Ok.. This is about the third time this has happened at various locations, and I'm pretty fed up with it.

What happens is, I am using a roaming user profile and folder redirection in combination. When the variables are right, the computer suddenly decides to copy the blank folders on the users local hard drive (such as My Documents) right over top of the user's data stored on the server. Thus effectively destroying tons of data, and forcing me to try an undelete it all.

I can't believe, for one thing, that Microsoft has designed this in such a way that it overwrites destructively instead of just merging the data back to the server.

This has to do something with offline files and syncronization I think. But, for some reason it gets confused and syncs back empty folders to the server thus overwriting the redirected folders that are stored on the server.

Today a customer sends me an e-mail and says, I had all my data before I went to lunch, and now I came back and EVERYTHING is gone. Sure enough, I'm still trying to undelete the data. The user's profile has been configured for over a week now with no problems.

Please explain this phenomenon and help me to prevent it from happening in the future.
