Hello,

I have a problem with folder redirection. This is what is meant to be happening, when a user logs the my documents folder automatically links to the user home driver (h:), but this doesnt seem to be happening. We do have a policy that is set withing GPO, and it has been working, but recentley it has stopped working, any ideas.

Regards

Sal

Sounds to me like the policy isn't coming down to the machines. You said this policy _used_ to function properly? Where is the policy being applied at (domain or OU)?

Secedit is a command that can be used to update/refresh GPO's on the PC.

You need to go to the machines and see if they are recieving the policy, check the policy on the domain, make sure it's still intact. Maybe even recreate the policy, it will only take a couple minutes of your time.

Download GPMC (Group Policy Management Console) from Microsoft. You'll find it much easier to create, manage and modify policy's in the future.

Holy Wow.

I would also use the GPMC and check the last date modified for the GPO in question under Details for the GPO.

is the policy setting set to basic and redirect to users home folder?

check the even viewer for details about whats not happening.

also us GPMC and RSoP (Resultant set of policies) on the workstation, this shows u what will be applied and to what and if the policy settings will fail or not.u can also use gpresult on the workstation to see what policies are being applied, and gpupdate can be used to update GPOs from the workstation

if u use a seperate policy for folder redirection, which is a good idea because a lot of times FR can break and stop working at random times, try deleting it on your DC and recreate it with just that policy set.
also make sure that replication is happening correctly

also check the permissions on the shares on your server, they could have somehow got changed.

see if u can hit the home folder with a UNC path, if u can hit \\server\share but not \\server\share\%username% then u have a permissions problem and need to look at that. make sure when u do this that u are trying to get into a home directory that the user your logged in with can get into, most likely there own home directory.

Thank you for the responses. I have tried recreating the policy in the GPO, the policy is in an OU. When running GPResult all policies are going through except the redirection policy. the policy is in a separate redirection folder. Replication is also happening cuz i stop one of the less important policies and then applied it again. Yes i can hit the users home folder through \\server\share\username but im not supposed to have access to it which is a bit strange. Not to sure what is happening there. But once again thanks for your time and your help

Regards
