Best to describe my objective by just going into a full explination, so without delay:

On my archive shared drive I have multiple folders for each year (2000, 2001, 2002, etc). I want the root of archive locked, as well as each year locked. Once inside the years there are multiple folders for each job that year (01-014A would be under 2001, 04-016VA would be under 2004, etc). I want those folders locked; however, once you enter that job folder there are 9 core folders in each job. Like I said, I don't want any more than 9, but I want users to have full control inside those 9 folders.

Example Path if G: is Archive:
G:\2004\04-016VA\Correspondence\blah.txt
locked....locked.........locked................unlocked

Locked meaning the root of that folder.

Possible Solution:
The only thing I could think of was to set inhertiable permissions at the root that would be pushed down all the way through, but create a bat/script file that will take a given path and allow full control to XX group.

Any other suggestions?

Holy Wow.

There are countless ways to use both share and ntfs permissions.

A common way is to let all shares be read write full access to all.

Secure the folders via ntfs permissions. Use groups to help ease how many users access resources. Be sure to use deny little or not at all.

There are also a few ways to automate any mmc component.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

By archive do you mean backups? Users shouldn't have access to backups.

Life is more painless for those who are brainless.
