Okay, I am the Administrator for my domain controller, so I am logged into an enterprise admin on this DC. Now, how do I find out a password for a particuar user without resetting it?

LOL Jennifer. Yes, you can't "find" it since as an admin, you shouldn't care what a user's password is. That's why, by default, in a user's profile, even to an admin, the password is shown as asteriks.

You can change it, but you can't view it. In all honesty, I can't see any reason to want to unless you plan on logging in as that user without them knowing it and well, that leaves me wondering about your motives......

If this was Yahoo, I would give Jennifer SUMN a low rating since the answer is the most stupidest answer I have ever seen. In fact, this is not the first time that user has given a stupid answer, she has given much more before.

Curt R, don't wonder about my motives, I was just wonderring weather there is a way of getting passwords out of your domain controller since your the admin, but I guess there is no way.

Well, this isn't Yahoo. "most stupidest?" Seems obvious to me that if you want to know something, go to the source. Stupid is relative, Katie.

Of course there are ways to hack your AD to obtain user passwords, but asking such a question on this site is against the rules. Therefore, providing information as to those tools is also against the rules.

Do you bother searching for information yourself, are do you always post on forums and yahoo for your answers so others can do your work for you? Being rude to members who gave a real, informative solution for your problem doesn't deserve a personal attack.

I keep track of a few of my employees password in a locked drawer for when said employees go out of town and other users require something from their desktop, my documents, etc when they forget to put it on a shared drive--or if require something from said users email... How did I get their passwords? I simply asked them and informed them as to the reason for my request.

Users shouldn't have a problem giving you the password if you’re a trustworthy person. In this case I'm going to assume you’re either A) a student (judging by the sentence structure and usage of jargon in your initial post) trying to get other students passwords for fun or to steal information, B) an end user going on strike, or C) someone that is just naturally curious about the procedure in not necessarily a malicious way, but not in a way that will help the organization that your employed with.

Holy Wow.

Kay Tee Pren Tiss may not be an adult. If he/she makes a poor statement I think we might correct instead of insult back.

Kay Tee Pren Tiss, Jennifer SUMN posts polite and, in almost all cases, good advice. Please follow her example.

No, No! I don't want to hack my domain controller! I am just wonderring weather there is a way of getting users passwords since I am the administrator of my domain. I don't want to "hack" their passwords because that is Illegal, unless I need access to the account badly without changing the password, I don't think that's illegal since ur the admin. If it is, then "resetting" the admin password is also illegal.

Right Jefro, I really was not trying to fight here, I am sorry about all of this, I was just curious and just got a little annoyed when Jennifer made a statement. Anyways, arguement is over. I wanted to know weather you can do this and I got my answer, No, unless you try to hack the passwords on your domain controller. I hope this rough post helps people answer their question that they may also ask.

Well, I am not going to put that its "illegal", but sometimes hacking your "own" domain controller for the users passwords is required.
