Hi Everyone

My boss wants us to be able to fax from our desktops. To start with, I've never implemented nor supported faxing of this kind.

I just wanted to get some ideas. I've started researching this today but I've not find exactly what I'm looking for. However, I'll keep on looking.

Does anyone out there know or use faxing from their desktops. How did you go about setting this up? Did you use a vendor or did you do it yourself? What is the best way to go forward?

I've read about needing a fax server/modem. Our server however do not have a fax modem at the moment. The laptops we use does have fax modems in though.

Also, the fax we use at the moment does not have networking capability as it is a very old fax machine. I thought having a networking enabled fax machine might help...We do have a dedicated fax line as well so that it does not interfere with normal calls so to speak.

Any ideas or pointers?

Thanks in advance

Hey,

My company uses a software called FACSys, It's very reliable, we use a fax server, connected to our exchange server. We've got a Brookrout 4 port analog fax card. We got a support agreement and emFAST helped me setup, configure and discuss our needs before and after we purchased. Great price, great support, We have been very happy with it.

Cheers!

Hi guys

Sorry for the delay in my reply.

jefro - Great link!!! Thanks very much. It was really helpful. This actually ;looks like the way I want to move forward on. So this really was valuable. Cheers mate

techieguy1980 - Thanks for your reply. I've actually been looking at the FACSys network fax solution supplied by n company called Techland at www.techland.co.uk. It looks really interesting. However, I have to say that I prefer using the built-in Microsoft Fax Service. I don't know whether this will be the best option, but based on the link that jefro posted, it looks pretty good.

Can I ask you guys - what hardware would you recommend with regards to a fax card etc?

We've got a Dell 2900 server with SBS 2003. Its has two Broadcom NICs but no fax modem or fax card nothing.

Do you know of a good fax card to use?
And then will it just be a case of installing the fax card and then configuring the Shared Fax service on the server and then the client side???
Also, one the fax card is installes, do I just plug the fax line directly into the card?

As you can see I'm very new at this. I've never implemented or supported faxing. And maybe I should get someone from the outside to do it, but in the last 12 months I've implemented so many things on my own without prior knowledge that I feel I could figure this out by myself once again.

Thanks for the help so far!!!

We supply and use a program called David Infocenter from a company called Tobit. Its basically a replacement for exchange, handles emails/faxes/sms direct from your desktop. Everything can be traced and shared etc. Not using this as a sales pitch, but if you're interested let me know, maybe it can help you out.
