Hi, I just recently installed small business server 2003 R2 which inclucded Microsoft Exchange 2003. I got all the users account setup in AD. They have a domain example: domainxxx.com. Do I need to contact there domain they had registered with to add an A record and MX record? Do I have to call there ISP to set a reverse dns to there AD domain?
Customer have static ip with ISP. I already configured there router to set a forward to there internal server IP address. I had configured there AD so it will be:full qualifed dns:
server.domainxxxx.com.The last time i done this was awhile ago and just want to verify if this correct.
Thank, Angkor

I forgot to explain you that I want the exchange 2003 mail to work. Do I need to contact my hosting company to point my server or IP address? example: server.domain.com , or 67.X.X.X ?
Also, how about MX record? Can I add under there hosting or I can create MX record under dns manager? please let me know the easy way to do this. Thank

If your SBS is behind a firewall and is using a private ip address, then you won't need a mx record. your domain registrar should be authoritative for your mx record. the mx record they have for your new exchange server should point to your internet facing router or firewall. You can go to www.ipchicken.com or www.myipaddress.com to display your ip address. Then contact your isp and tell them to associate the mx record with your ipaddress. you have other things to configure for your exchange server, firewall, router, etc. Asking for configuration help may be beyond the scope of this forum......hope this helps....
