hi...
new prbs... :P, well can say, a new experience...
The prb is like, i've made a share folder on a windows 2003 server, that is accessed by all the users. That share folder is havin tons of excel files in it... The prb is like, when a user opens the file it works fine n he closes it, n if he tries to open it again, it gives a message that this file is already in use, open it as read-only... despite of the fact that the file is not in use... i did some googling, n found out that indexing is the culprit, and microsoft suggested this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954820, well the prb with this link is that windows 2003 server in my case is having sp1, and in this article they say that the prb is with sp2.... well i tried to change the indexing service, n it gave me some fatal warnin, that u won't be able to access n all... well can anyone suggest, wat cod be the possible solution...
Currently i jus go to Manage n close all sessions... n if the prb does not resolves, i ask the user to log out n login again.....

Sometimes the problem is caused by the indexing service at the w2k3 server.
So right click on My Computer | Manage | Services | double click on Indexing Service and disable it.
Try again !
Should work.

i jus checked in services that indexing
service is already disabled The exception to that rule is that if you have installed Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, then the Indexing Service is disabled by default

no windows desktop search in startup
folder... but wat i've done is... Right CLick
my Computer | Manage | Indexing Service | All
Tasks | Never used... well so far users
haven't faced any prb today... lets see if
this helps thanx paulsep

Hi paulsep...
well i don't think so its helping, well, i
haven't faced that problem so far i.e.,
"Files opening in read-only mode" but
sometimes i get this error, "Can't access
xyz.xls" file.... n for this i have to go to
manage n click on sessions n terminate the
session for the user who comes up with the
problem,... well this isn't a solution...
but....... do u have any idea abt it...
