"Error copying file or folder", "Cannot copy"
We have a user who is experiencing problems copying a .tif file from 1 partition to another partition of a windows server 2003 machine using his networked winXP professional SP2 workstation . The source partition is accessible only to his login & the target partition is write only.
Using available methods (copy/paste, drag/drop, copy folder) using win explorer all fail.
However using Total Commander Copy command results in success.
so we have a workaround but still curious about the cause. The .tif image file was edited using GIMP & it is suspected this program may be the root cause as we have notice some strange file behaviour (save file but it does not exist on drive or file exists but is not updated, could be associated with temporary file created), anyway we have stopped using GIMP.
Not all files edited with GIMP have this problem. The files can be copied to another different partition on the same server or local workstation drive no problems & then copy to the write only partition with success using win explorer. However this method is not allowed in our process as it violates our control procedures.

Looking at the properties of the file at the bottom of the properties window...
"This file came from another computer & might be blocked to help protect this computer"
Pressing the Unblock button fixed the problem.Still curious as to what attribute of the file is enabling the windows system to determine "file came from another computer" NTFS permissions ?
