I am running win server 2003 and want to allow other people in my house to logon with a user account to access the internet but I dont want them to have administrator previleges. I created the new user account and logged on successfully. But the system does not allow the wireless network to make a connection. How can I give the user permissions to the wireless device?

Ok I didnt explain clearly enough. I have three other computers and I can connect those to the router. Also when I log onto win server 2003 as administrator I can access the router. But when I log onto win server 2003 as a user, then win server 2003 blocks the user from connecting to the router. Heres what happens exactly. I log onto win server 2003 as a user and I see the wireless connection is established. At this point it seems win server has not applied ALL the security settings for the user because after a moment or two I see the connection drops out. If I open wireless networks I can see that the wireless card is in an endless loop trying to determine an ip address and it appears that as soon as it gets an ip address the system resets the wireless device in some way such that the wireless card tries to determine a new ip address from the router. This is the behaivor that never ends. So how do I stop the system from doing this?

What wireless card are you using? I have a ZyDas USB wireless , where you must once login as a Administrative User, then it acepts limited users.

I have an D-Link dwl-g520, whose configuering-console wouldn't start in visible mode (so no use), but the card works fine on win 2003 when you disable all services from the card installation and you let windows configure the conection.

I would gues you just having a compatibilty problem.

There is a way to start programs with administrative privileges using a batch file. The program is called sanur.exe ("runas" inverted). But you may not want to have such a batchfile around because it contains your administrator password in cleartext.

Computers should work, humans should live - and both won't do what they should.
