I'm running a computer with Windows 2003 Server Enterprise already installed. I want to add windows xp because my zune is not compatible with server 2003. I partitioned my hard drive using Paragon Partition Manager and installed XP on the new partition. The problem is whenever I try to boot XP the screen freezes on the windows logo with the loading bar underneath and all the colors get pixelated and turn strange colors. I can still boot into server 2003 just fine. I've read other threads with a similar problem but its the opposite where the user can boot into xp but not server 2003. I didn't find any solutions to my problem in those so thats why Im asking here. Is there something I can do to fix this problem?

Might try using a virtual machine instead. Some support usb devices.
As for the install I'd suspect some driver issue. Try safe mode first. If the system is a real server they usually are difficult to get xp on. The hardware is usually not included in the xp disk.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Since you don't mention having to update the boot files for 2003 after the xp install, you have to NOT be telling us something.
Are you using a boot manager other than the MS boot.ini?
When in 2003 what drive letter does the xp partition have?
FYI the 2003 boot files would be overwritten by the xp install. Xp boot files can't load 2003 but the 2003 boot files can load xp. This is why I know you are not giving us the whole story.
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

Instade of using one hard drive for both you can add another Hard Drive as slave and Install Win XP on it. you find the H/D from ebay on very affordable price and you will be worry free.

zafsyed that does not address the issue nor would it change the issue unless you were to boot the drives via the bios [each as boot drive] which most users don't want to do.

First I partitioned my hard drive, the XP drive is letter G:, the server 2003 drive is C:. Then I restarted with the XP cd in and the computer booted from that. It asked which partition to install XP on and I chose the G:. Everything seemed fine and it installed, but when it tried to load XP it froze like I said before. So then I restarted and I then got a DOS looking prompt that let me choose which OS to boot with. If I choose Server 2003 it loads fine. If I choose XP it freezes like before. This is what is in my boot.ini file.
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
signature(5fbd786a)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2003 Server (on Volume 1)" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
signature(5fbd786a)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /fastdetect
signature(5fbd786a)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2003 Server (on Volume 1)"

So did you try to load it in safe mode or vga mode? Sounds like a driver problem, if you can boot in safe mode, it's gonna be easy to fix.

That's really weird, which service pack does the windows xp disc that you used to install it have, i would recomend getting one with SP2 if you used an earlier one, http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm... shows you how to "slipstream" SP2 into an earlier disc. Also, run chkdsk on the partition that it is installed on to see if there are any file system problems.

Sure looks like you did everything right.
You should have had to repair install 2003 to get it to boot after the xp install.
[trick is before the xp install you copy off ntldr, ntdetect then reinstall them (overwrite the existing) after the xp install]Fact you didn't means something strange went on.
I would do a reinstall of XP, just as you did the first time. See if that doesn't fix your dual boot issue.
BTW you might want to clean up your boot.ini since you have three instances of the same 2003 install.

It should be XP first then Win2k3, At least that is how I have mine setup. What do you mean by my zune is not compatible with server 2003.
Are you using Win2k3 as a desktop/workstation?
If you are then just use Windowblinds, Thats
What I use..
