hi,
i have a standard folder setup (includes subfolders and varying permissions for depts)
Each time we start a new job (maybe 5 a week) I copy this folder structure into the right place for people to start working on that job.
My major headache is each time i do this i have to setup the permissions everytime as the new copy of the folder structure doesnt carry with it the permissions.
its a right pain, ive not found anyway to make the permission stay with the default structure template.
Hope that makes sence

Is there anyway i can setup up a new folder structure from the default structure that keeps the same permissions.
Would be great to lock permissions to a folder if wanted.

Thanks for any help
Simon

Since you're copying files, you are inheriting the acl permissions of the folder you're putting those in. This utility would allow you to batch the process for the correct ACL's.

Yes, I'm sure.

Yes, I've used it, hence why I'm aware it exists.

No, it's not complicated as long as you understand NTFS permissions.

Have a look at a tool called secure copy from Scriptlogic (scriptlogic.com).
It's just for keeping permissions intact while copying.
We use it for synchronization project folders with set of different permissions across servers and workstations. If this folders have shares - it is not a problem - secure copy can also recreate shares.
