I have a winxp computer that I have been using for a while. I just got a new computer with win2003 on it. I created an active server domain. I want to add the xp computer to the domain. Is there a way I can log on to the domain, and still have all my original settings for the xp user.

If it is XP home then you should upgrade to XP Pro.

If it is Pro, then do this:

In Server Management (on server), add the computer and the user. Then on the xp machine join the computer to the domain (right click on "my computer", go to properties, join domain)

Good luck, my instructions were brief but I know you can do it.

I don't think Ducklip's solution will keep your original settings. What you have to do is after joining the domain copy the profile from the 'old' user to the 'new' (domain) user. You can do that by logging on as a 3rd user (like administrator) and copy the profiles by right-clicking My computer -> Advanced.

Also I would not create the account in the server AD first. It is not necessary and has caused a lot of problems for me.

There might also be a way to do it with XP migration but that stuff gives me a headache. ;-)
