domain users vs. authenticated user

does anyone know the difference between using authenticated users vs. domain users.
my guess is that an authenticated user can be from any trusted domain. Can anyone verify or elaborated.

I believe authenticated users means any user authenticated - local or domain. Domain users means any domain account, but obviously not local.

True! The only non-authenticated user is the guest account which has no password.
