Hey everybody.

I'm a student / admin on my school network

Got two servers, named alpha and gamma
Domain called "vs.net"
Domain NetBIOS name "VS"

alpha runs dc, ad, dns, dhcp
gamma got internet (and isa 2k6 enterprise when it works proberly)

I want gamma to be 'Additonal domain controller for an existing domain'

I get following error when trying to make it:

An error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain vs.net.

The error was: "No records found for given DNS query."

(error code 0x0000251D DNS_INFO_NO_RECORDS)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.vs.net

How to fix it?
Or ideas?

Not entirely sure where the '_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.vs.net' should be located?

Thanks in advance.

to be an additonal dc you have to dcpromo it to be a dc.
does dns contain a record for gamma?

Why are you making an ISA firewall a DC?!

Solution: Get another server. Heck, setup a desktop class machine for a second DC before you put a copy of your domain on your ISA firewall!

To heropsycho2177:
I don't really know their system.
I just do as the old guys say i should do, more or less anyway.

But i see your point.
So i should just let the ISA be?

I don't know why they need another DC, maybe because their computers are so old, they are affraid they should crash or something. (And they have a few times the few weeks i've been here)

You want two DC's also serving as GC's for redundancy.

Ask the old guys if they'd make a firewall a DC. ISA 2004 is a firewall.

And don't repeat this to them, but those "old guys" have no idea what they're doing, so be careful what you "learn" from them for your own personal learning.

Hehe..
I know what you mean, almost every student in this class thinks our teacher is a little out-of-date and should retire -.- To bad he wont.

I'll try and see if i can get my hands on one of the old servers we used to have and make it a DC too.

Thanks for your help at the moment.
