Hi,
I´m having an odd problem in my LAN. I used to have several computers with w2000 in a domain with a w2003 server (domain controller) running. I have a domain server that is serving files and other things. The problem is the following: all computers connected ok to inet and to the shared files(they used first DNS entry for the domain server, and second to resolve names in inet), but I installed a machine with win XP, and this will only resolve first entry in the DNS configuration (in the TCP/IP properties). I mean, if first entry is the domain server it can get into the shared files in the lan but no to inet (you connect if you use an IP so, the problem is the dns server), and if first entry is the inet dns server it can connect to inet but not to the domain server. This computer is configured the same as the others with w2000. Do anybody know what's happening?
Thanks a lot,
HexDump.

If you are talking about the Preferred and Secondary DNS settings on the client you are mistaken. If this computer is part of a Windows Active Directory domain, you should have the Windows DNS server set to Forward Internet requests to an external DNS server - like your ISP. The Secondary DNS server will only reply if the Primary DNS server does not reply. Even if the Primary does not know the answer, the Secondary will not reply.
I think you need to reconfigure your DNS server. Are you currently Forwarding Internet DNS requests to another DNS server?
