In Windows Server 2003 (Enterprise Edition) I have a question about using Disk Quotas under a Domain setting. This is for a class I am taking in college and the teacher refuses to help us but we can use any other resources that we wish to use. (This is all done using virtual machine)

Here's the situation:

When a client logs into the domain through a Windows XP SP2 machine, a Home Directory is mapped to drive H: on their machine from the Server. On the server this drive is setup (using Disk Quotas) so that each user is allowed a maximum of 100 MB and the Warning Level is set to 80 MB. Now in the documentation the teacher provided, it says: Set the maximum to 100 MB and then have it warn them when they have reached 80 MB.

Now from all of the books I've read and research I have done online, I have not actually found how to exactly get the server to "Warn" the "User" when they cross that 80 MB warning level. I know that it logs it to the server because I have tested it and seen it do that, but I can only get the server to warn the user when they go over the maximum 100 MB threshold.

I was wondering if anyone knew a way to physically warn the user once they've crossed the warning level of 80 MB, or is this just not possible?

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

It's possible to set warning levels for users. Explore a little deeper in the Quota Entries dialog box... (In the My Computer folder, right-click the desired disk drive and then click Properties. In the Properties dialog box, click the Quota tab and then click Quota Entries)

The question was how to get that warning to the USER not to event viewer.
Note the first page and the logging options which only has two choices of which neither is warn the user.

I'm guessing then that from what it seems it is not possible, or rather there is no easy way to warn the actual User on this. It isn't the biggest deal if I do not find a solution since there might not be one. I will assume this just cannot be done so I will not worry about it on the project.

Thanks for the help.

Note the Quota Entries button on the first page... add the user and set the warnings.
