I have a windows 2003 dhcp server attached to my core switch. We have pc's and other devices on switches that are attached to the core as well. The problem is that when any device gets a dhcp address they get a "255.255.255.255" subnet. The proper subnet address is "255.255.0.0" we have only one vlan. Somtimes the device gets the proper subnet. I am looking for any help.

dukeminus,
What other devices are attached to the switch, explain.

Just FYI, using VLAN tagging on a single subnet is moot and pretty much a waste of time. Unless you're planning on creating more subnets (and more VLAN's) soon, you may as well not bother as you're just adding a layer of complexity to what I would consider a very basic single subnet network.
As to your problem, first, make sure you have no other DHCP enabled devices in your network. This includes switches and/or routers that may be DHCP capable.
Second, double check your DHCP server and ensure it's properly configured.

When they get the wrong subnet mask is the gateway the same as with the 255.255.0.0?
I would suspect you have two dhcp servers and just don't know it.
One vlan is usually the default setting in switches.

It would seem you almost certainly have another device handing out IP addresses.
When a pc gets the wrong subnet mask, do an IPCONFIG /ALL and see what is listed for DHCP server. Compare that to one that has the proper config to see what is handing out the wrong address.
