I want to demote a DC. We have 3 currently and one of them is old. What precautions do I need to take?

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

Its a pretty straight forward process. FSMO roles will automatically be moved so that really isn't an issue.

Just make sure you do NOT check 'this is the last domain controller in the domain'. That would be a problem.

Otherwise just demote it, make sure it completes successfully and they go back in a few hours and check you AD to make sure all signs of it are gone.

It isn't a big deal.

Good luck.
