I have spent days trying to figure this out, so would someone please help me. I use Small Business Server 2003 Backup to do a daily backup to an external USB Hard Drive. The backup size is about 100 GB and the drive is 500 GB. I rotate the drives according to the day of the week. Every morning I come in and there is an error box saying "Delayed Write Error...". Here is the event viewer error and and the log file from SBS Backup. Everything is fine according to the log though. It says success. Huh? Also, I can't configure SBS backup settings after getting this error until I delete the regitry value for the backup path.

Event ID 50
{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file . The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

Event ID 26
Application popup: Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file G:\Backup Files\Small Business Server Backup (01).bkf. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

I have had similar problems on many USB drives. I think there is a problem endemic in the microsoft USB drivers combined with streaming to a file (that doesn't correct it's own errors).

It's not the drive, or the quality of the USB board/drivers.... it's USB and NTbackup.
