HI
Hope somebody can help me with this one?
I have an unbootable Server 2003. I am able to access the data using ERD commander across the network. I have a Server 2003 running on a different machine which has been set up identically to the dead server.
My problem is that the all the backup tapes are corrupt!!! It never rains but it pours .. entirely different story!.
The data on the dead server is clean and I have managed to migrate all the data within the shares successfully. Now comes the difficult bit.
Is there anyway to migrate the exchange server edb files to the new server. exmerge wont work because it needs the exchange services to be running on the source server (ie the dead one).
Second problem. Is there any way to migrate the sharepoint files? Likewise the microsoft tools spout and spin require a valid url to export from on the source server. As this wont boot, there is no valid URL.
Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated right now.
thanks in advance

I don't know if this will work or not, but, have you tried slaving the drive(s) from the dead server into the new one and migrating the data from there? Might be worth a shot....

Hi Curt
Thanks for the post but alas I cant slave the drives as for 1 they are in a raid array and secondly I still cant boot the operating system. That said, after a bit more digging around the web I have found a great piece of software called power connects. This basically allows you to interrogate and merge edb files from a dead server to a live server. Hurray, we have email and public folder history back and alive. Really recommend this package to anyone that has similar problems. Its infinitely more reliable than Microsoft exmerge!
Right all I need now is to be able to export the sharepoint documents and we are back up and running. If anyone knows how to do this from a dead server to a live server please please share the knowledge. I can navigate around the file structure of the dead server but cannot boot it.
thanks in advance
