hello,
i want to know how to create a partition in win 2003. the instruction i have is to go to admin tools--> computer management --> disk management and click in an empty space and go to creat a partition option. the problem is that option is not available. i have win 2003 enterprise edition 180 day trial. currently i have only one partition that holds the operating system itself, the capacity is 74.52gb and i have 71.61 free. i am just wnat the practice i was going to partition 5- 10 gb for file storage. all suggestions are welcome.

I am afraid that windows will not let you create a partition if you have to "unallocated space" on your disk (that is, space that is not currently partitioned). To do what you are trying to, you would need to use a 3rd party tool such as Symantec Server Magic (Partition Magic will not run on server o/s's). You would then need to resize the first partition to a smaller size, and create the new partition in the space that is now available.
This is, however, not an extremely smart thing to do as you are messing around with the boot partition on a server - so the best thing to do is to get the partition configuration right before you install the o/s. But, it's all part of the learning process!
