Delete the compy account in AD, then rejoin it normally.

Well I've been stoped at every stage of the way...now when I got to dcpromo install it stops midway with the..
This active directory installation requires domain configuration changes, but whether these changes have been made on the domain controller (local host) is undetermined. The installation process has quit.
The system cannot find the file specified.....and install fails...

LOL...you didn't say you were reinstalling a domain controller!

Well...hopefully you have more then just the one domain controller you are trying to reload...if you do, promote the other DC to primary using dcpromo, remove the domain controller from active directory that you are trying to reload, whipe out the DC you are wanting to reload, reload it, join the domain, use DCpromo to promote to a domain controller again. Restore from backup any data files you need, dont try restoring the OS, or active directory info. Hope that helps. If this is the only DC on the network, pretty much SOL, and are going to have to recreate your users, join the new domain with all of the clients etc.

I received the same error only I was just trying to make a backup domain controller so that I can transfer active directory data and then promote it to PDC and demote my other. I tried doing the restore my system state from a backup but on my new server the mouse and keyboard are USB(only)and my old Server is not and I can't get logged in. My key board and mouse works until I get the Windows 2003 screen.
Anybody have any suggestions?
