Hi,

Currently the client computers in my network is connected with a switch, then to a router and is able to access the Internet freely.

I would like to make the environment more secured and control the internet access with the server.

What are the features that I should implement and how can I do it? Some advise on how to start would be much appreciated and I'll do more reading from there.

The server is running on Windows Small Business Server 2003 and the clients are running Win XP Pro SP2.

Also, what is a Proxy server and would it be good to implement it as well?

Thanks for the advise in advance.

Best regards,
Jane

You'll need to implement a third party tool like websense for control over surfing

I was looking for something similar(to track or limit internet usage) and ended up using a registry entry that disables the clear history button.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]
"History"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]
"History"=dword:00000001

If you paste this into a .reg file and run it you can no longer clear the history. It also does not let you delete the history folder in windows explorer.

If your willing to spend some money, I really like track4win but if your on a limited budget this reg entry at least lets you know where they are surfing.

Or even there is a group that it creates & puts everyone into by default I think it is Internet users, remove that & they wont get tot he internet.
If they're using the premium version, then you'll have ISA 2004 to use as a Proxy/firewall
