My computer seems to be really slow. i mean it takes up to three minutes to download a webpage. i ran performance monitor, and found that sometimes the processor is 100% used, the paging file is also used a lot and even the disk queue is also full at times, but i cannot see what programs or services are using these. when i press Alt-Ctrl-Del/Task Manager, the performance shows CPU history at 100%, but when i look at the processes, system idle process is running at 91% or better, but if you cancel it all, it goes back to a snail pace. Even opening and closing programs can take a long time, but i cannot find out what programs is using all the system resources. i was trying to type a letter last night, and it took me over three hours to type a letter i could do in five minutes. The system kept freezing every 10-15 seconds for a bout a minute. i went to bed last night, and i could hear the computer hard drive, still screwed up. You could hear the hard drive Tick-Tick-Tick etc, then a burst of activity for a few seconds, then silence, then back to tick-tick-tick etc. A friend of mine said i am probably running programs and servicxes i don't need, but how do i find out what programs i really need to be running. i know for example if i close scvhost.exe, i can expect my computer to crash, but how do i findo out the programs that must run to keep windows runnig, and those i can close, becasue they don't need to be running, and are eating up valuable resources.

Thanx

Has your harddrive always tick-tick-ticked? If not it sounds like the drive is about to die. That would account for the problems you are having.

First off, I agree with Sandman... that is most likely your problem.

Secondly, that OS needs at least 256 mb of ram to run. Yes, I said AT LEAST. I know this isn't your current problem but I'd reccomend a RAM upgrade as well. Cheers
