I need to temporarily remove password complexity requirements. I have disabled them in gpedit.msc, domain security policy, and domain controller security policy but I still recieve an error when I try to create a user with a simple password. What am I missing?

Thanks

Give it time to replicate. The policy isn't always applied right away. You can speed it up with the secedit command, SECEDIT /REFRESHPOLICY MACHINE_POLICY,and then try it. Give it at least an hour or so to be sure. It won't usually take that long but it isn't instant. How long have you waited?

Thanks for the reply Glen. I had actually refreshed the policy using both secedit and gpupdate so I'm pretty sure the policy was applied. What I found was that even with the default domain policy complexity requirements disabled I still had to lower the actual requirements in the local computer policy (the enforce complexity requirements option was grayed out and set on disabled). Is this the way it is meant to work or do you think I have something configured incorectly? All group policies are at their default settings except for the password requirements

I'm having the same problem with 2003 server.
I have a company which cannot stand this password requirement. I've disabled password complexity on the default domain policy, rebooted, this the only AD server...yet it still doesn't seem to take effect.

Any help would be appreciated..

thanks,
Rob
