I have Win XP Pro Client machines that seemed to not want to log onto the server. After typing in the name and password, it will get to the screen that says “loading person settings” and just hangs there. I discovered if I want to log in, here is what I do. I unplug the Ethernet cable from the wall, Start up the machine, type in user name and password, and it is at the “loading personal settings” screen that I get this pop up---
"Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile and is
attempting to log you on with your local profile. Changes to the profile
will not be copied to the server when you logoff. Possible causes of this
error include network problems or insufficient security rights. If this
problem persists, contact your network administrator. "I click “OK” and it logs me on. I plug the cable back in, and it finds the server and syncs with it and all is well.
Well, all isn’t well, because I don’t want everyone having to go through the ritual of unplugging their Ethernet cable just to log in.
What could be the problem?
