I would to know of a way to change the Workgroup after having installed Certificate Authority Service.
When I bring up the System Properties, Computer Name; the "change" button is greyed out and there is a note text output field: "Note. The identification of the computer cannot be changed because the CA service is installed on this computer"

Are you sure you need to change a workgroup? You posted in a 2003 Server forum and workgroups aren't used with a 2003 Server, domains are.

Sure, let's call it a domain for now. the issue is that right now, I am running Windows 2K3 Server. If the Systems Properties->Computer Name panel is opened, then it shows that the system is part of the Workgroup "WORKGROUP". I want to now add it to say a domain, but the only way that I know how to do that is by selecting the "Change" button which happens to be grayed out (un-selectable). So I would like a work-around, without having to rebuild some of the server services that I have already installed and configure since these are a bit tedious.

Something doesn't sound right. A domain and a workgroup are 2 completely different things. If you have a domain and you want to change the name, the following site explains how to do it.

Either way its immaterial. Once a server is promoted to a CA its attributes are tied directly to AD and the adapter is bound to AD.Even if its in a a workgroup the same remains true. This is not reversible. Renaming a CA isnt practical because then all the certificates it issues become invalid. If he wants to add it back to a work group he`s going to have to rebuild the server.

Thank you scurlaruntings, MCSE for answering my question, with the answer that I fear. I just wanted to make sure that I was not missing something that could be done with out having to rebuild the server.
For guapo, Pretty hopefully I am not the only one who learned something new today! :)
