Hey all i have recently installed windows server 2003 on a computer within my home i have 5 computers on my network all active and running fine the domain controller has been setup to be a domain controller and control a domain. problem is i have no idea about the DNS side of life. i get the error on ALL my pcs the error is "AN ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE THE DNS NAME OF A DC IN THE DOMAIN BEING JOINED HAS FAILED! PLEASE VERIFY THIS CLIENT IS CONFIGURED TO REACH A DNS SERVER THAT CAN RESOLVE DNS NAMES IN THE TARGET DOMAIN."
Basically this error is telling you your DNS is not configured correctly. When promoting a server to a DC, you should allow it to do the DNS during the promotion. When finished, your DNS address will be that of your DNS server (your DC).
Creating an AD integrated domain is not for the uninitiated. You need to do some research/reading on the topic to get a basic understanding of how to do this. I recommend you start at microsoft's website.

One key point is if you are still allowing your router to be the dhcp server, you should have your ms server do that, you need to change the dns entries the router gives out to only be your servers ip.
You need to put your isps dns servers in the dns server forwarders tab [not to be confused with forward lookup zone]
Example of Oxymoron:
Person who is pro life and anti sex education.
Education is key to prevention. Prevent conception you prevent abortion. Abstinence training clearly isn't working.

I figured it out last night didn't take that long i changed the TCP/IP settings. the DNS server was my server (10.1.1.5) and my gateway i changed to my modem/router (10.1.1.1) fixed both the logon and the net for all computers! thanks guys for your help anyway.
