Hello,I am a newsy, I have tried the software tech support for my software and they say they support Windows Server 2003 but they haven't been able to help. The problem is I have a Server purchased from Dell, I used it at my office as a host for 5 XP work stations, went out of business sold the work stations and kept the Server which is running Windows 2003 Server, now I am working in another business just renting space and need to connect with their existing net work which is computer running XP professional. The software/database they are using must be installed on each workstation locally but the data base is kept on the Host computer which is running XP pro, I have installed the software on my computer (Win Server 2003) and have tried to connect to their network and the software database that I want to run on my computer as I am now a client in stead of the Host computer. When I try to run the soft ware I get an SQL service not running error? so I installed VMware (Virtual Machine) on my machine and then on the the Virtual Machine drive I installed XP Pro, so then installed the software and I still got the SQL Service not running error on the XP Plat Form? So I then looked and saw that the Virtual Machine was using the Server 2003 setting to connect to the Host machine, so I disabled the Server 2003 connection to the Host and established a new connection to the host with the Virtual Machine and Presto I am running the software on the database that I want from my machine(Win 2003 Server) on the virtual Machine running XP but it is running way to slow through the Virtual Machine. So what can I do?
The soft ware company first said they don't support Win 2003 Server and their software won't work on it but after talking to a upper lever support tech they laughed and said they do? But no one can fix my problem?
I think it is sort of backwards what I want to do use a real server as a work station running Win Server 2003 to a computer running XP Pro acting like a server? any help would be great. The software company thinks that the Host computer has a older version of SQL running than on my machine or the client machine? the host is running MSSQL? I am not sure what SQL Service my machine/client machine is running but they said it was newer? Sorry so long but I really don't do this kind of stuff. Any help would be great if you can point me to what type of person I need to hire or get help by that would be great.
