Hello,
I am stucked with a problem and hope someone can help.
I am trying to ping my Windows 2003 Server machine from my Vista machine without any luck.
I have the following scenario at home:
I have ADSL router and then two computers - one with Vista and connected to the router via Wireless modem and another with Windows 2003 Server and conencted directly to the router via the network cable. When I am trying to ping the machine with Windows 2003 Server from amy Vista machine, I don't get any response.
The ipconfig info is the following:
Vista machine:
IP: 192.168.1.21
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Windows 2003 Server machine:IP: 192.168.1.96
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0I would be grateful for any hints.
Best regards,
Vitaliy

Both get on the internet?
Can you ping from the server to the xp box?
Can the server ping the gateway?Any software firewalls installed on the server [first place to look]

Thank you for the reply.
Yes, both can connect to the internet. But I can't ping from the server anywhere, even to itselves IP 192.168.1.96.
That's very strange.
There is ISA 2006 Server installed, but I just installed it 1 hour ago and I guess it is not the reason.

Not being able to ping the loopback address does not indicated a nic problem but a tcp/ip stack problem.

Not being able to ping the loopback address does not indicated a nic problem but a tcp/ip stack problem.
also not tcp/ip stack problem..
1. check your nic.
2.check your dhcp. if your router enable dhcp. also your windows server 2003 enable dhcp. dhcp only 1 can enable. choose router more good.
3. check any program / firewall.
4. throw your pc into fire.
5. throw into the sea.
dun forget to visit http://pokyeh.blogspot.com or http://pokyehyeh.site90.net

pokyehyeh you have two wrong answers
"also not tcp/ip stack problem.."
and
"choose router more good"the loopback address is assocatiated with tcp/ip which is then bound to hardware [nic].
All the pins on the jack can be broken off in the rj45 nic port and ping of loopback will work whereas the nic can't communicate [ie broken],microsoft RECOMMENDS the DC be the dhcp server not the router since in AD you can have dhcp dynamically update DNS whereas the router can not.
Seems you are here to promote your web site not provide accurate information.

if you see.. i just copy his stack problem as one of problem.1. physical problem -> cable/(switch/hub/router)/nic.
2. software problem -> a lot of software to list here.
